His heart was beating hard in his chest,
pressed against mine. XXX It’s like he read my mind, and now he
was coming over. I was more interested in who was dancing with who than I was in
finding a partner of my own. “I have to go home in a half hour,” I said. Crickets chirped from a
distant window. “I must be a good
dancer, huh?”
I felt my face flush. “Cheers,” he smiled, handing one to me. I wanted to hide under the bleachers. Just an average home in an average town. Just enough to make me want more. I swallowed it gladly, enjoying every sweet drop. “Sure,” I said, feeling a little shy and uncomfortable. “Dance with me,” he said. “I think so.”
He nodded knowingly. The living room was unremarkable.
